Nike is on the path to recreate the Air Mags, the sneaker worn by Marty Mcfly in Back to the Future II. In the movie the shoe featured an automatic lacing system. Nike has filed for a patent for a possible release of the shoe. The Patient shows two straps that open and closed, and a tight and loose fitting system.
An article of footwear with an automatic lacing system is disclosed. The automatic lacing system provides a set of straps that can be automatically opened and closed to switch between a loosened and tightened position of the upper. The article further includes an automatic ankle cinching system that is configured to automatically adjust an ankle portion of the upper.
If Nike wants to stay true to the theme of Back to the future 2, they should release the shoe in 2015 to coincide with the movies timeline in which Marty Mcfly is seen wearing the shoe. If Nike can pull off a show with Auto lacing it would be a game changer and change the way sneakers and technology go together.
