Introducing the Adaptive Keyboard!

Posted in Hardware, Microsoft, Windows on October 22, 2010 by tatstechtalk

When Microsoft announced its Adaptive Keyboard, backed by an LCD not entirely unlike the Optimus Maximus and its dynamic ways, the company said it’d be hosting a contest to see which students could come up with the best way to use the thing. Now it’s time to look at some of the results. Highlights? One app, with the press of a button, replaces your keys with the icons on your desktop. Another brings Windows Media Player playlist control to your fingertips, and a third lets coders easily navigate namespace, class, and member variables. Oh, and then there’s the app that dynamically remaps your keys to frustrate keyloggers — and users. There are lots more, all presented by some generally uncomfortable looking students over the course of the video embedded after the break. Warning: it’s 24 minutes long, so you’d best get a refill before clicking “Play.”

Microsoft is Driving for the Future!!!

Posted in General, GPS, Green, Microsoft, Windows on October 20, 2010 by tatstechtalk

I know how patiently you’ve been waiting for this day, but it’s here. It’s really here. Microsoft Windows Embedded Automotive 7 is out, appearing in the download queues of “select car makers and suppliers in the automotive industry.” What does it offer? Why, Silverlight support for fancier UIs, real-time text-to-speech technology, and better expandability for third-party plugins. In bigger news, Microsoft is confirming that it is the brains behind the Nissan Leaf’s Information Hub, which not only handles infotainment duties but also gives charging status and power consumption figures. Finally, the MyFord system is going global, shipping to Blue Oval vehicles in Europe and Asia in 2011. That’s after 2.5 million Sync-equipped cars have hit the road. Highway domination? Nearly complete.

Dirty Touch Phone’s!!!!

Posted in Android, Apple, Blackberry, Microsoft, Mobile, Windows, Wireless on October 17, 2010 by tatstechtalk

We have to be careful since Touch screen phones are the wva of our immediate future!!!
If you have even the slightest inclination towards Mysophobia then please, do yourself a favor and stop reading now. A Stanford University study found that if you put a virus on a touchscreen surface then about 30 percent of it will make the jump to the fingertips of anyone who touches it. From there it goes into the eyes, mouth, or nose — whichever face-hole is in most urgent need of a rub. And just to drive the point home, the Sacramento Bee adds this little nugget from an unspecified British study: “Mobile phones harbor 18 times more bacteria than a flush handle in a typical men’s restroom.” Eww. You know, sometimes it’s best not to know how the sausage is made.
